Defining Your Expectations and Creating a Syllabus for a Penn Class

A Workshop with Penn's Center for Teaching and Learning

Catherine Turner

Senior Associate Director, Center for Teaching and Learning

The Wolf Humanities Center invites you to join us for a hybrid workshop led by Catherine Turner, Senior Associate Director of Penn's Center for Teaching and Learning. Participants will examine a set of syllabuses from successful Penn classes to talk about how to make explicit the expectations that instructors have for students, while also thinking about some of the implicit expectations Penn students have (and how to work with them). Alongside logistical issues like the rhythm of the semester, this workshop will focus on policies around grading and class participation as well as ways to use tools (like Canvas) to consider how to create a class that is rigorous and welcoming.
